But Nevada State Athletic Commission would not allow the match-up as they argued that Hunt’s wins over Wanderlei Silva and Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipović gave him an unfair advantage on the mat. It’s somewhat strange as Hunt is almost entirely a striker and didn’t win those fights with his ground game, although he did attempt an atomic butt drop on Wanderlei.

But Wanderlei was pulled from the fight for not submitting an application to fight in the state of Nevada and refusing to undergo a random drug test. But he’s potentially returning to MMA in the not too distant future.

Thomson ended up losing his next 3 fights and never got back to a title contender position and left the UFC for Bellator.
