What do you think this UFC says GSP is still under contract video?
On Monday Georges St-Pierre told Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour that his contract with the UFC has been terminated and he’s now a free agent. But the UFC is stating that is not the case.
They sent out the statement:
"Georges St-Pierre remains under an existing agreement with Zuffa, LLC as his MMA promoter"
Zuffa intends to honor its agreement with St-Pierre and reserves its rights under the law to have St-Pierre do the same."
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson had somewhat of a similar dispute with Bellator in 2014 when it was announced that he’d be
fighting in the UFC again but Bellator president Scott Coker intervened and said:Let us be clear that
"Rampage" is under an exclusive contract with #BellatorMMA. We will protect our contractual rights."
It ended up becoming a legal battle where Rampage said that Bellator didn’t honor his contract so that’s why he
signed with the UFC, but Bellator was able to initially get him out of his UFC fight with Fabio Maldonado, but that
would be overturned by a superior court and Rampage ending up fighting that one time in the UFC, before settling his
differences with Bellator and returning back to the promotion.
When GSP said he was a free agent, the only thing Bellator president Scott Coker
stated to the media was: That’s interesting.
Sunday marked the 3 year anniversary of Georges St-Pierre’s last fight at UFC 167 against Johny Hendricks.
GSP won that fight by split decision. That victory was his 12th straight win and 9th defense of the
UFC welterweight title.
