Conor McGregor’s vision for 2016 was to be a 2 division champion,
he lost the opportunity to do so when Rafael Dos Anjos pulled out of their fight in March due to injury.
McGregor lost the replacement fight against Nate Diaz, but won the rematch in August,
and now Conor gets a shot to make history by becoming the first fighter to hold 2 belts at the same time
when he takes on UFC lightweight title holder Eddie Alvarez on November 12th.
UFC presidnet Dana White has said Conor needs to drop one belt if he wins a second one, originally McGregor disagreed.
But now McGregor told Sports Illustrated:
"I’LL ALWAYS LISTEN TO THE CORRECT BUSINESS MOVE AND I’LL ALWAYS DO WHAT IS THE CORRECT MOVE.
BUT LET ME DO IT AND LET ME GO BACK AND LOOK AT SOME PICTURES OF ME WITH TWO BELTS AND LET ME EMBRACE IT FOR HALF-A-DAY."
"Let me see the pictures on publications with a belt on each shoulder first. Let me go onto the side of that Octagon
and raise two world titles, what’s never been done before, before talking about stripping me. Let me get the f—— things,
let me do it.
"Let me look at the historic images we’re going to get on this night, me with these two belts. That’s what everyone should be excited about, this is history."
McGregor was able to become a 2 division champion in the Cage Warriors promotion .
Randy Couture was a UFC champion in 2 weight classes in the UFC but on separate occasions, as well as BJ Penn.
Penn had an opportunity to hold 2 belts at the same time in 2009 but he missed the chance when he lost his fight with Georges St-Pierre at UFC 94.
