The best fight of 2016 might have taken place on the 2nd day of the year at UFC 195 when Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit threw down for the welterweight title.
Both left everything they had in the cage and put on a tremendous show for the fans in Las Vegas that night.
Not only were the UFC 196 and 202 pay per views the most financially successful for the UFC in their history, but they also had two of the best fights of 2016
with Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor and their rematch.
UFC 206 in Toronto featured one of the most entertaining fights in featherweight history with Cub Swanson and Doo Ho Choi going at it for the entire 15 minutes
in a fast paced, action packed fight, full of momentum swings, and one that many fans are calling the best fight of 2016.
Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson’s title fight at UFC 205 was also a highly entertaining and close contest, which won fight of the night on that stacked card in
New York. Both fighters gained a lot more respect from fans and themselves after that fight, and it was almost fitting that neither fighter suffered a loss on their
record that night.
One of the lesser known fight of the year candidates in 2016 was the absolute slugfest between light heavyweight Sean O’Connell and Steve Bosse at the UFC’s show
in Ottawa in June.
And Tony Ferguson and Lando Vannata thrilled the crowd in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in July when they put on a wild fight in Lando’s UFC debut.
Lando also is a strong candidate to win the knockout of the year for his wheel kick KO over John Makdessi in his fight at UFC 206.
But there is still a chance that one of the fights on the Sacramento card on December 17th could be a fight of the year contender. Or one of the fights at
UFC 207 which include Hendricks vs Magny, Dillashaw vs Lineker, Werdum vs Velasquez, Cruz vs Garbrandt, and Nunes vs Rousey.
