Amanda Nunes wants 2nd UFC belt

Amanda Nunes won the UFC women’s bantamweight belt in July, she defended it at the end of 2016, and now says she wants to make women’s MMA history
and take on the winner of Holly Holm vs Geramine de Randamie, and try and become a 2 division champion.
In July after winning the belt Nunes said she only wanted to fight in the bantamweight division.

With Cyborg dealing with her potential anti doping violation case with USADA, there’s no clarity on when she will return to fighting.
So she’s not in the picture to fight for the featherweight title. But the new Invicta interim featherweight champion Megan Anderson
also wants that featherweight belt.

What makes things more complicated is if Holly Holm wins the featherweight title, she also has a similar goal as Amanda Nunes.
She says: “In a perfect world if I were to write out what my dreams would be, I wanna hold both titles at the same time,”
“Why not? I mean I had [the 135lb] belt at one point. It was taken from me fair and square. I think anybody in their right mind wouldn’t
want to be gone for good. I wanna be able to fight for it.”

The desire to fight for second belt is an emerging trend in the UFC. Conor McGregor wanted a second belt right after winning his first one.
He won the second belt in November, ended up being stripped of the featherweight title, never ended up having a title defense fight.
McGregor the lightweight champion but there’s no guarantee he’ll defend the belt next against the interim champion, McGregor has some interest
in getting a third title in the UFC, which would be the winner of the Woodley and Wonderboy fight. And Woodley also wanted to fight for a
second title against Michael Bisping, but Woodley admits he’d fight Bisping at 185, but wants no part of fighting Yoel Romero, who is the
number one contender in the division. So hypothetically if by Woodley did get the Bisping fight and won he would possibly just instantly vacate the
belt right after winning it.
And new UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt, just over a day after winning his belt he was talking about being interested in fighting
the featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
With so many champions losing their belts recently and many of them not even caring about defending them, Demetrious Johnson’s 9 title defenses
of his flyweight title is a remarkable feat in today’s MMA climate.
On the women’s side, Joanna Jędrzejczyk’s 4 title defenses is also an impressive achievement.
With all the title changes over the last few months, the rest of the champions are still at the 0 or 1 title defense level.
